Former Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor has died at the age of 93. Texas representatives reacted to the news of the historic justice’s passing.

O’Connor was a conservative justice but that by no means stopped her from being beloved by politicians of various parties.

“Former Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor was a force to be reckoned with. As the 1st woman to serve as the U.S. Supreme Court Justice, she broke barriers & will inspire generations to come. Lorena and I extend our deepest condolences to her family, friends, & loved ones,” said Texas Representative Vicente Gonzalez (D).

Texas Representative Veronica Escobar (D) expressed her condolences toward the historic judge.

“I'm so saddened to hear about the passing of Supreme Court Justice and El Pasoan, Sandra Day O'Connor.”

“Justice O’Connor’s trail-blazing legacy as the first woman to serve on our nation's highest court will live on in the minds of women and girls across our nation,” continued Rep. Escobar.

The court stated that O’Connor died from complications stemming from dementia.

The former justice’s death comes after the death of another public figure, former first lady Rosalyn Carter. The former first lady was 96 and married to former president Jimmy Carter.

The former first lady was beloved by most Americans regardless of their political party. She was a caregiver, champion and advocate, urging U.S. administrations to develop positions dedicated to protecting caregivers.

In her last days, she entered hospice care. Carter had recently celebrated a birthday and was stated to have enjoyed cupcakes and peanut butter ice cream.

The activist will be remembered for many things from peanut farming with her husband to the several causes she continued to fight for. However, one thing that may stand out the most is her role as a family woman.

The humanitarian is survived by her husband, four children, 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
