Texas Representative Beth Van Duyne (R) explained her vote for the 2024 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).

In a tweet, the congresswoman explained that though she wished for more measures to be included in the bill, she still thought the bill was useful.

"Yesterday, I voted for the FY24 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). Though I had disagreements with certain provisions of the bill, we can’t let perfect be the enemy of good. With weakness in the White House and conflicts in Europe and the Middle East, we must ensure our troops are prepared for threats from our adversaries.

The FY24 NDAA

Includes strong border security provisions

Invests in Army ammunition plants

Counters China’s aggression

Creates a Special Inspector General to oversee all U.S. security assistance to Ukraine and investigate potential waste, fraud, abuse, or corruption," tweeted Rep. Van Duyne.

Some Republican lawmakers had previously expressed an unwillingness to compromise on the defense bill. Many of the GOP's gripes stemmed from two measures dealing with abortion access for military members, as well as transgenderism. However, the bill passed with bipartisan support. Furthermore, the bill includes measures such as pay raises for military members.

Rep. Van Duyne has spent time addressing several issues. Recently, the congresswoman called for the release of more Israeli hostages.

“I was glad to hear of the release of some hostages held by Hamas, including 4-year-old American Abigail Mor Edan. However, the majority of the hostages are still being held captive by Hamas. We must #BringThemHome NOW!”

Earlier in the year, the Texas representative took the House floor to fight for the Child Support Enforcement Program.

In a tweet, Rep. Van Duyne criticized the IRS for its role in ending the program.

“The IRS is continuing to push harmful policies. Their latest effort will put millions of families at risk who rely on the resources provided by the Child Support Enforcement Program. Together with my @WaysandMeansGOP colleagues, I’m working to preserve access for vulnerable families.”
