Van Duyne Insists IRS Commissioner Testify Before Ways and Means Committee

Texas Representative Beth Van Duyne (R) recently insisted that IRS Commissioner Werfel testify before the Ways and Means Committee.

“This week, I joined my @WaysandMeansGOP colleagues in demanding IRS Commissioner Werfel testify before our committee on his failure to follow a law passed by Congress and signed by President Biden. Although I voted against this law, and continue to oppose its harmful provisions, I'm concerned about the IRS’ legally dubious decision to change the law without authority from Congress,” stated Rep Van Duyne.

The IRS announced that anyone who received a certain amount of money through payment apps would have to fill out a 1099-K form. However, the agency has stated it will push it back to delay confusion regarding the new rule.

“I’m demanding accountability after the IRS announced that for the second year in a row, they won’t implement a new tax reporting threshold passed by Congressional Democrats and signed by President Biden in 2021. While this law was flawed to begin with, I cannot turn a blind eye to the IRS’ blatant disregard for the rule of law and their attempt to sidestep constitutional authority.”

The Texas congressman demanded that the American public get an answer as to why the IRS has skewed the role of the bill intended to prevent the overwhelming of IRS agents.

“This week, I sent a letter to Commissioner Werfel asking him to testify before the Committee on Ways and Means to explain why the agency refuses to enforce the law and has attempted to rewrite policy, without the authority to do so. Americans deserve answers as to why the IRS is ignoring the Constitution’s separation of powers.”

Recently, Rep. Van Duyne explained her vote for the 2024 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).

In a tweet, the congresswoman explained that though she wished for more measures to be included in the bill, she still thought the bill was useful.

“Yesterday, I voted for the FY24 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). Though I had disagreements with certain provisions of the bill, we can’t let perfect be the enemy of good. With weakness in the White House and conflicts in Europe and the Middle East, we must ensure our troops are prepared for threats from our adversaries.”
