Representative Troy Nehls (R-TX) is demanding that the Director of U.S. Marshals Service Ronald Davis, release the video footage of a January 6th detainee who was allegedly sprayed with chemicals for “removing his COVID mask to take medication,” according to the Texas congressman.

Rep. Nehls made sure to make it clear that he wasn’t asking the Director for his cooperation, but that he demanded it.

“My point is this: I’m not really even asking you; I’m demanding that you call the D.C. DOC (Department of Corrections) to release the footage on one of your detainees. We should have a right to see this. If it’s bad news and you don’t like what it shows, then we got to fess up to it. We got a problem here,” said Rep. Nehls.

He continued by mentioning that this issue will become his “personal mission.”

“I’m gonna make it my personal mission, my personal mission, to use every subpoena power that I can get from this committee to get this footage. I apologize to this gentleman. I apologize to his wife, Sarah for having to go through this with no answers or help,” Nehls said.

During the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime and Federal Government Surveillance hearing, the Lone Star State congressman concluded by getting a commitment from Director Davis to address the footage of the detainee in question.

“So, can I get a commitment from you that we’re going to look into this? I have your assurance that we’re going to look into this that we’re going to look into this and get this video footage? Because, if not, we got to go to DOJ (Department of Justice). I don’t care,” said Nehls. “I have to go to whoever because I think we have a problem here. And it seems like it’s being covered up.”

On Tuesday night, Nehls voted for the impeachment of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. He provided a statement as well, invoking the nation's founders to emphasize his belief in Mayorkas’ removal.

“The Framers considered impeachment to be an essential tool to hold government officers accountable for political crimes, or offenses against the state,” said Rep. Nehls. “The articles of impeachment against Secretary Mayorkas provide that he has willfully and systematically refused to comply with immigration laws enacted by Congress and has breached the public trust by knowingly making false statements to Congress and the American people and obstructing Congressional oversight of his department.”

Congressman Nehls represents Texas’ 22nd District.
