Texas Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R) took part in a press conference this week, discussing the ongoing border concerns. In his comments, Rep. Crenshaw praised Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R), admitting that Governor Abbott has answered the call to address illegal immigration in Texas.

The southern border has become a growing concern leading up to the upcoming presidential election, and Republicans have been embroiled in a rivalry with President Joe Biden (D) over the approach that the U.S. should take on the matter.

Citing that Governor Abbott is “taking action,” Rep. Crenshaw went on to call the Texas governor “a careful man,” adding that addressing the southern border “is an issue of sovereignty.”

Commenting on the problem, Rep. Crenshaw shared that “this is an issue of safety with respect to the drug cartels that control the entirety of the southern border.” He further explained that “if anybody is to say that they have operational control of the border, they’d be lying unless they are the drug cartels.”

“They do have operational control, and they make tens of billions a year from charging people to cross that border, and bringing people to that border,” Rep. Crenshaw affirmed.

Governor Abbott has attracted controversy after Texas officials took control of Eagle Pass, Texas. Subsequently, the Biden administration directed a lawsuit at the state, and in response, lawmakers are now coming to the state’s defense.

On social media, Rep. Crenshaw provided more context surrounding Texas’ defense, writing that “in Texas, we don’t just sit back and wait – we act.” “Democrats support their efforts to defend the state and stop the influx of migrants that are crossing the border illegally,” he added.

The Texas Republican has been a vocal critic of inaction to secure the southern border, and he has also introduced legislation that, should it pass, would provide the president with the power to direct the military to take on the drug carels.
