President Joe Biden (D) has announced that he will be visiting the southern border on Thursday. This happens to be the same day that President Donald Trump (R) will be visiting the border. Ahead of President Biden’s visit, the Border Patrol Union has released a statement, slamming President Biden over his plans to visit.

Last week, President Trump announced that he would be visiting Eagle Pass, Texas on Thursday, which has been at the center of controversy after Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R) took hold of the location to address issues pertaining to the border. This week, President Biden announced that he would be taking a trip to Brownsville, Texas, where he would be meeting with U.S. Border Patrol agents, law enforcement, and local leaders.

However, President Biden has faced mounting criticism over his perceived mishandling of the border, and ahead of his visit, the Border Patrol Union has released a statement criticizing him.

Border Patrol Union President Brandon Judd argued that “a visit by President Biden three years into his term and after repeatedly stating there is no crisis is too little, too late.”

“Whether stating it himself or through WH Press Secretary Karin Jean Pierre, Biden has said he’s done everything he can to secure the border. If that was the truth, and it wasn’t, there would be no point in visiting the border now,” Judd said.

“Even if he were to put the proper policies in place at this late hour, he’d be doing it only to try to save his Presidency. And self-serving actions when time is winding down should always give Americans pause,” he added, noting that “common sense dictates that as a lame duck, he’d revert back to his open border policies if re-elected.”

Assuring that the president is only making the visit “to try to save himself,” Judd expressed that “border security should never be about politics, it should always be about the safety and security of this great nation and the American people.”
