WASHINGTON—The Biden administration has announced that it will task the U.S. military to build an “emergency” naval port in the Gaza Strip to help facilitate humanitarian aid to Gazans as the war between Hamas and Israel continues.
The administration contends that U.S. troops will not be on the ground while aid is brought in, but will work “just offshore.”
President Joe Biden is expected to make the formal announcement during his State of the Union address.
Upon hearing of the naval port being build in Gaza, members of the Republican Congressional delegation were taken back by the administration’s decision to directly aid the Hamas-led government in Gaza over Israel.
“What?! Are you serious?” asked former Naval fighter pilot Rep. Jake Ellzey, in response to Texas Politics’ request for comment.
Rep. Ellzey’s fellow Republican colleague in the House of Representatives, Rep. Pat Fallon, was also taken back on the news of the port being built, and used some choice words to describe President Biden’s call to action in Gaza.
“That is insane. There is a lot of dumb shit coming out of this administration, but that’s something else,” said Rep. Fallon.
Rep. Fallon, a former U.S. Air Force Captain, went on to explain that the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza was solely the fault of the Hamas, which “deliberately murders Israelis” while the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) make every effort to minimize collateral damage.
Fallon also asserted that the aid that comes in to Gaza will most likely make its way to Hamas, which will then sell it for “nefarious purposes.”
“If you are a Palestinian, and you criticize Hamas, you are going to have the lifespan of a fruit fly,” Fallon added. “Putting Americans on the ground in Gaza is insane.”
Former Navy Rear Admiral Rep. Ronny Jackson joked that President Biden was probably going to let “Hamas members join our military.”
“What do you expect from a president that is America Last?
What’s next? He’s going to let Hamas members join our military,” quipped Rep. Jackson.
Rep. Derrick Van Orden, a former U.S. Navy Seal who deployed to several war zones in his career, questions why the U.S. is providing aid to the Palestinians.
“The Palestinian Authority is run by Hamas. Hamas is responsible for the greatest slaughter of Jews since the Holocaust… I don’t know why we should be providing aide to these people,” said Rep. Van Orden. “The Biden administration is siding with Hamas, and I’m not. These are savages that have done the most brutal things.”
