Senator Ted Cruz
Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) spoke to Texas Politics regarding the recent election results and how they affect the Lone Star State. Sen. Cruz emphasized the notion that President-elect Donald Trump (R) does indeed have a mandate to bring change to the federal government, and the success that the former president enjoyed in Texas, especially in blue areas, is proof of that.
More specifically, Sen. Cruz was asked about the importance of foreign policy and homeland security to Texans this cycle.
“It was front and center, one of the major reasons for the overwhelming election result, number one. Securing the border is a clear and unequivocal mandate from the voters, and we are going to deliver on that promise,” said Cruz. “That's not going to take a year. It's not even going to take six months. We are going to see the numbers plummet [in] January and February of next year.”
When asked about the possible conversations he’s had with President-elect Trump, Cruz confirmed that securing the border will be an immediate priority.
“Absolutely. And more broadly, on foreign policy and national security. When Trump was president, the last time, we had peace and prosperity. And in fact, we saw with the Abraham Accords, peace flowering throughout the Middle East,” said Cruz. “Joe Biden, the Democrats came in, and they screwed it all up, and we now have two major wars raging across the globe because when the American commander-in-chief is weak and AWOL, our enemies get more aggressive, and the world gets more dangerous.”
Furthermore, the Texas senator provided a bold prediction in saying that the wars involving Ukraine and Israel could be over relatively quickly when President-elect Trump is back in the White House.
“And I think we will see both wars come to an end in this next year, and we will see Israel defeat Hamas. And Trump, as Commander in Chief, stood with our friends and allies and stood up to our enemies. And our enemies were terrified of Trump. They are not terrified of Joe Biden, and his weakness has jeopardized the safety and security of Americans,” concluded Cruz.
Cruz defeated Representative Colin Allred (D-TX) by 8.5 points in November.
