Luttrell Co-Chairing Traumatic Brain Injury Caucus

Texas Rep. Morgan Luttrell (R) and Pennsylvania Rep. Chris Deluzio (D) have announced they will co-chair the newly formed Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Caucus, a bipartisan effort aimed at improving research, diagnosis, and treatment for those affected by TBIs.

In a video posted to X, the two lawmakers—both Navy veterans—emphasized the importance of addressing TBIs, which impact veterans, athletes, and everyday Americans.

“Our role and responsibility with this caucus is to be forward leaning in finding research, talking to subject matter experts across not only the nation but the globe to find that absolute answer and the best way that we can increase quality of life and decrease symptomatic issues for those that have traumatic brain injuries,” said Rep. Luttrell.

The initiative focuses on advancing research, breaking down barriers in the medical and academic communities, and ensuring proper diagnoses for TBI sufferers.

The Texas Republican highlighted a common issue among veterans: “Traumatic Brain Injury is often misdiagnosed with posttraumatic stress disorder. We want to clear the playing field and make sure that our veterans get the proper diagnosis, but they also have the treatments available to increase their quality of life and decrease their symptomatic issues.”

Rep. Deluzio reinforced the need for bipartisan cooperation in tackling this issue.

“This is a big issue in our veteran’s community and all over the country and the world, and it’s a place where Congress can really lead,” he said. “I think it’s important to see our government decide this is a priority for us to fund research, to take actions and support policies to help folks get the care they need,” Rep. Deluzio commented.

Rep. Luttrell, who has personally battled TBI, expressed his commitment to the cause, writing on X, “As a veteran and someone who has personally battled a TBI, I know firsthand the challenges so many face. We’re fighting for better care, research, and support.”
