Cornyn, Cruz Praise President Trump’s Swift Approval of Major Disaster Declaration for Texas Floods

U.S. Senators John Cornyn (R) and Ted Cruz (R) expressed their gratitude to President Donald Trump (R) for quickly approving Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s (R) request for a federal emergency disaster declaration after devastating flooding in Kerrville and surrounding areas.

Senator Cornyn emphasized the deep impact of the disaster and the importance of unity in recovery efforts.

“The Kerrville community has endured unimaginable devastation, and I thank President Trump for swiftly approving this disaster declaration to ensure every available resource is being utilized in rescue and recovery efforts,” Cornyn said.

He added, “Being a Texan doesn’t just describe where you’re from, it describes who your family is, and even in the darkest times, Texans come together to serve one another in a powerful way.”

Cornyn, a lifelong Texan and father of two, also expressed his sympathy for those affected: “My heart breaks for the families who have lost loved ones in this tragedy, and I encourage all Texans and Americans to pray for our state and for the safe return of those who are still missing.”

Senator Cruz called the flooding “absolutely devastating” and thanked President Trump for approving the disaster declaration.

“We urge everyone to stay out of harm’s way,” he said, praising the first responders risking their safety to help those in need. “As Texans, we must remain united in spirit and grit, and support our neighbors as we always do best.”

Earlier the same day, Senators Cornyn and Cruz sent a letter to President Trump requesting that the federal government continue to surge all available resources to Kerr County to aid ongoing rescue and recovery efforts.

The rapid approval of the disaster declaration brings critical federal support to the region, underscoring the urgent need for coordinated relief amid the Texas flooding crisis.
