Crockett Praises Senator Cornyn as 'Bipartisan' Republican

Senator John Cornyn (R) is among the slew of Republicans calling for repercussions against the Texas Democrats who fled the state in protest of a vote to redraw the state’s congressional map. During an interview on MSNBC, Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D) dismissed the Texas Republicans letter to the FBI calling for their arrest, assuring that it’s a stint to appeal to the “MAGA base” and that he is a “bipartisan” Republican.

The Texas senator, who is currently running for re-election against Attorney General Ken Paxton (R), recently sent a letter to the FBI, asking for their help in arresting Democrats of the Texas House who fled the state in opposition to the GOP’s effort to gain 5 seats.

Rep. Crockett commented on the act, dismissing the effort as a political stunt to help the senator win his re-election bid.

“I’m about to tell all of MSNBC a secret,” Rep. Crockett said during the interview. “I actually don’t hate Senator Cornyn at all. And right now, what we have is a senator who actually is a real Republican who’s doing everything that he can to make it seem like he’s a MAGA Republican so that he can get through his primary.”

Rep. Crockett, who is a former civil rights attorney, accused Senator Cornyn of abandoning his typically bipartisan approach to court the support of the MAGA wing of the GOP.

“Senator Cornyn, this is not him,” she said, referencing his past service on the Texas Supreme Court and a more moderate record compared to Senator Ted Cruz (R). “This is somebody who typically works in a very bipartisan way.”

The Texas Democrat also questioned the legal basis of the letter.

“Senator Cornyn knows that the FBI can’t get involved and ain’t gon’ get involved as it relates to some little civil situation that was signed off on by the speaker of the Texas House,” she said. “But the MAGA base won’t know that.”

The FBI has since responded to Senator Cornyn's request, and they are committed to helping arrest the Democrat lawmakers, which has drawn further scrutiny.
