Texas Representative Joaquin Castro (D) recently shared an update on his health condition after having had surgery to remove a tumor in February.
“Today’s one month since my surgery to remove cancerous neuroendocrine tumors. After 10 days in the hospital in Houston I got home to San Antonio to recover,” said Rep. Castro.
“Thank you to everyone — friends, strangers and even some folks who can’t stand my politics — who’ve reached out.”

The Texas lawmaker continued, saying, “I’m especially grateful to my family for being so supportive and understanding. And to my doctors and nurses for helping me recover after the surgery.”
“I still have a ways to go but I’m getting there. Finally, thanks to my amazing staff! I’ll be back on the job in DC in mid-April.”

In February, Rep. Castro announced he would be taking a break from his duties in order to recover from the surgery.
“Today, I successfully underwent surgery to remove gastrointestinal neuroendocrine tumors,” tweeted Castro.
The San Antonio native gave details as to what specific ailments were affecting his body.
“Last summer, doctors discovered these small, slow-growing, and mostly asymptomatic tumors after a series of tests.”
The Texas congressman continued, stating, “My prognosis is good. I expect to be home recovering in Texas for several weeks before returning to Washington to continue my work for the people of my hometown, San Antonio.”
The congressman concluded his tweets by expressing his gratitude for the healthcare workers who helped take care of him during his operation and stay at the hospital.
“Thank you to the doctors, nurses, and medical staff at MD Anderson Cancer Center and the University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio for their care and treatment, and thank you to my family for their love and support,” stated the Texas lawmaker.
