Texas Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R) is introducing a resolution to condemn Manuel Andres Lopez Obrador (AMLO) over his threat to interfere in U.S. elections. The tension between Republican lawmaker Rep. Crenshaw and AMLO dates to the introduction of a bill that would authorize the use of the military against Mexican cartels.

The bill was introduced by Crenshaw and Florida Rep. Mike Waltz (R), but AMLO took issue with the bill. He went on to correct the lawmakers, saying that Mexico was in fact safer than the United States, and he threatened to interfere in the upcoming election to ensure that Republicans lose.

“In addition to being irresponsible, it is an offense to the people of Mexico,” AMLO said, speaking of the bill.

Because of this, Crenshaw has introduced a resolution to condemn AMLO and calling on the State Department to survey the Mexican government’s activities.

“Instead of fighting the Mexican drug cartels that are killing Mexicans and American’s, President AMLO is fighting people like me who actually want to stop these murderous thugs,” said Crenshaw.

Crenshaw took aim at the Mexican president, saying that him “and his cronies have attacked me personally, victim-blamed Americans killed by fentanyl, and vowed to interfere in American elections to stop legislation that would target his cartel donors.” “Attempts to intimidate American voters or intervene in our democratic process will not be tolerated,” said Crenshaw, adding that “Republican leadership should bring this important resolution to the House floor immediately for a vote.”

The Texas Republican urged every member of the House to “support this resolution to show a united front against AMLO’s reckless rhetoric and his failure to stop cartels in his country from mass murdering Americans with fentanyl.”

Crenshaw has remained critical of AMLO, and President Donald Trump (R) has shared his support for military use against the Mexican cartels.
