Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R) recently issued a statement discussing the Texas House of Representatives passing HB 1/HJR 1 for substantial property tax cuts as part of the recently announced special session #1 agenda.
“Today, the Texas House passed HB 1/HJR 1 for substantial property tax cuts. It provides more property tax cuts than any other proposal at this time,” said Gov. Abbott.
The new legislation is backed by multiple businesses in the state.
“Over 30 homeowner, consumer, and business groups across Texas support it. I look forward to signing it when it reaches my desk.”

Abbott brought attention to the state’s status as the only state to pass a bill of this nature.“The
Texas House is the only chamber that passed a property tax cut bill that is germane to the special session that I called to provide Texans with property tax relief,” said Governor Abbott.
The Texas Governor continued to laud the new legislation’s benefits.
“It provides more cuts to property tax rates than any other proposal at this time. It is supported by the most respected tax think tank in the state, as well as more than 30 homeowner, consumer, and business groups across the state. I look forward to signing it when it reaches my desk."
Texas Taxpayers and Research Association (TTARA) President Dale Craymer expressed his support for the bill.
“We appreciate the swift action by the House to pass a bill that provides meaningful, permanent property tax cuts showing up in Texas mailboxes this year,” said Pres. Craymer.
Texas has faced a lot of difficulties recently. On the last day of the 88th Legislative Session, new gun legislation finally passed the Texas House. House Bill 2744, which raises the legal age to buy a gun from 18 to 21, passed after much support from Texas lawmakers and citizens.
Over the course of several hours, many Texas representatives took to the podium to speak against the increasing gun violence in the nation. The representatives were joined by multiple family members of those who were tragically slain in mass shootings such as the Uvalde Massacre.
The bill has to pass through other measures before it can officially become a law, but it is still a major victory for its supporters.
