Texas Representative Sylvia Garcia (D) released a statement celebrating the approval of a $36.9 million federal grant for the construction of 2 railroad underpasses in Texas.
Rep. Garcia tweeted her support of the federal grant.
“Proud to announce a new $36.9 million+ federal grant that will close the funding gap for the city to construct two railroad underpasses at Commerce Street and Navigation Boulevard and York Street in the East End. These essential funds will improve safety in our communities,” said Rep. Garcia.

In a year where train crashes and derailments have been all over the news headlines, railroad crossings are very important.
“Blocked railroad crossings are a dangerous hassle for our community. We are working every day across jurisdictions, agencies, and levels of government to make Houston safer and easier to get around,” said Congresswoman Garcia.
Garcia stated the importance of the railroads to those who share her views.
“This is a top priority for me because it is a top priority for my constituents. I have hosted the FRA administrator for two town halls in the district and spoken to Secretary Buttigieg and the White House on this matter."
The Texas representative celebrated the Biden administration’s usefulness to the Houston community.
“I am grateful to see the administration is listening to East End residents who have made their voices heard. Increasing community safety through our nation’s infrastructure has been a top priority for myself, House Democrats, and President Biden, and these federal dollars are a strong reflection of our hard work and dedication.”
The railroad construction should help address some major infrastructure problems that were very dangerous.
“Children shouldn’t have to crawl under a train just to get to school. Ambulances shouldn’t have to detour around a stopped train when seconds matter” concluded the Congresswoman.
“The funding will close the funding gap for the city to construct two railroad underpasses at Commerce Street and Navigation Boulevard and York Street in the East End. Congresswoman Garcia supported this effort by the city in partnership with the Gulf Coast Rail District,” reads the statement.
Texas politicians Governor Greg Abbott (R) and Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick (R) have been at odds over the impending property tax bill.
“Governor Abbott released a statement this evening where he said, 'The Texas House is the only chamber that passed a property tax cut bill that is germane to the special session that I called to provide Texans with property tax relief,' said Lt. Gov. Patrick.
In a tweet, Gov. Abbott discussed the disputed bill passing the House.
“The Texas House passed HB 1/HJR 1 yesterday to cut property taxes for all Texans. It provides more relief than any other current proposal and is supported by 30+ business, homeowner, and consumer groups. I look forward to signing the largest property tax cut in Texas history.”
