Texas Representative Greg Casar (D) and multiple Latino representatives took a congressional trip to Latin America.
In a tweet, Rep. Casar detailed the experience of visiting the Latin American countries.
“On our Congressional trip to Brazil, Chile, & Colombia, we met with lawmakers & leaders to chart a new course for US foreign policy.”
“We all benefit from partnerships based on peace, respect, & democracy. It's how Congress can tackle the climate crisis & help workers everywhere!” said Rep. Casar.

The Texas lawmaker emphasized the historic significance of the meeting between the U.S. representatives and the Spanish-speaking countries.
“It was the first time that anyone can remember that an entirely Latino delegation of members of Congress went down.”
Casar described how the Latin American countries were surprised by the representatives holding the meetings in a variety of languages including, Spanish, Portuguese and portuñol, which is a mix of Spanish and Portuguese.
The Texas representative expressed his desire to form new relationships with Latin America that he states was previously based on “Cold War militarism”, “military interventionism”, and “supporting coups and corporate extraction”.
Furthermore, Casar stated that the new relationship should be based on “mutual respect and supporting democracy” while focusing on the climate crisis, helping workers and “addressing the root causes of migration.”
In other news, Casar recently introduced the Agricultural Worker Justice Act and the Fairness for Small-Scale Farmers & Ranchers Act, in an attempt to fight corporate greed and protect farmers.
The Agricultural Worker Justice Act targets large corporations that take advantage of American workers. The bill requires the companies to pay “decent wages” and provide “safe working conditions” in order to continue doing business with the federal government.
The Fairness for Small-Scale Farmers & Ranchers Act is designed to change the agriculture system to help small farmers and consumers. It would halt mergers of big agriculture businesses and strengthen antitrust laws in the food and agriculture system.
In a tweet, Rep. Casar discussed the two bills.
“Farmers work endlessly to feed our families – they deserve a Farm Bill that puts farmers & workers over greedy corporations. The Agricultural Worker Justice Act and the Fairness for Small-Scale Farmers & Ranchers Act is just one way we're fighting for a pro-worker Farm Bill.”
