Texas Representative Beth Van Duyne (R) announced that she would be “fighting back” against the Small Business Administration (SBA) ending collections on pandemic loans.
In a tweet, Rep. Van Duyne expressed her disappointment with the decision not to collect several thousands of dollars from loans.
“This week, I am fighting to hold the Small Business Administration accountable for their decision not to collect pandemic loan repayments under $100,000. These loans were never meant to be forgiven. For the sake of taxpayers being forced to foot the bill, we must continue to demand answers on this alarming decision,” said Rep. Van Duyne.

The loans, Payment Protection Program (PPP) loans, were given out during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, much of the money has not been paid back.
“It’s unacceptable that the Small Business Administration (SBA) has decided to end collections on pandemic loans awarded under $100,000. These loans, which were never made to be forgiven, are valued at $70.9 billion dollars. Instead of working to collect agreed-upon payments, the SBA is choosing to punish taxpayers by forcing them to foot the bill,” said Rep. Van Duyne.
The government chose not to pursue the most strict rules in collecting the loaned money. However, Rep. Van Duyne questioned the decision.
Van Duyne joined her colleagues in calling for an investigation.
“I joined my House Committee on Small Business colleagues in fighting back against this reckless fiscal decision made by the SBA. Before determining the debt is uncollectible, there must be every effort made to ensure that it truly cannot be recovered. Instead of a blanket decision that lets borrowers off the hook, we must be staunch in our resolve to promote accountability and recover the funds.”
Recently, Texas Representative Beth Van Duyne (R) took time to remember WWII veteran Arthur Watson who recently passed away. The veteran was known for his brave and selfless acts in the war.
“This week, we’re remembering and honoring WWII Veteran and hero Arthur Watson, who recently passed away in Grapevine at the age of 103. We are forever grateful for Arthur’s service to our country.”
