Texas Representative Michael McCaul (R) officially announced his bid for re-election for Texas' 10th congressional district.
The Texas congressman is endorsed by several Republican lawmakers including Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R), who is currently fighting the Biden administration's lawsuit against the state. Furthermore, Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick (R) has endorsed him in his bid to remain in Congress.
“I’m proud to have the support of so many Republican leaders across our state and I look forward to continuing to stand shoulder to shoulder with them to deliver results for Texans,” said Rep. McCaul.
Like many House GOP members, Rep. McCaul has publicly stated his concern for the border security at the U.S.-Mexico border. On Jan. 3, several GOP representatives visited Eagle Pass with Speaker Mike Johnson (R).
“I’ve spent my entire career fighting to protect American citizens from threats foreign and domestic. Never in my lifetime have I seen a greater national security threat than what is happening at our southern border,” Rep. McCaul added.
The Texas congressman expressed his extreme ire with the Biden administration who have taken a different approach to border security than some in the GOP. President Biden has repeatedly ordered Border Patrol agents to cut razor wire implemented by Gov. Abbott at the border. Many opponents of the state's use of razor wire claim it is inhumane.
“Joe Biden and Alejandro Mayorkas have created the worst border crisis in American history. I'm sick and tired of Texas bearing the brunt of the Biden Administration's failed policies. I'm running full steam ahead because enough is enough -- it's time we secure our border.”
Along with serving as a congressman in Texas' 10th congressional district, the Texas Representative serves as a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee as well as Chairman Emeritus on the House Homeland Security Committee. His bid for re-election comes amid a time when many GOP representatives are leaving or stepping down from Congress. In the last few months, Representatives Ken Buck (R) and former speaker Patrick McHenry (R) have both stated their intentions not to seek reelection.
