Nehls on the Southern Border: 'I Was Right'

Republican Members of Congress from the state of Texas commented on the recent updates surrounding the southern border and the Biden administration’s handling of the crisis.

The right side of the aisle has been extremely critical of President Joe Biden (D) and Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. The House of Representatives impeached Secretary Mayorkas after a second attempt in early February.

“In 2022, I led a letter to Secretary Mayorkas regarding a report about Venezuela releasing criminals from prison early and pushing them to head to the US. I was right in sending this letter. In the past week alone, we've seen the tragic consequences of releasing Venezuelan nationals into the country. It's time to put Americans first—not violent Venezuelans,” said Representative Troy Nehls (R-TX).

Rep. Nehls also provided an example of an illegal immigrant breaking the law after being released by law enforcement under the Biden White House.

“This is Renzo Mendoza Montes, a Venezuelan national. He crossed the border illegally and was released into the country by the Biden Administration. He’s been arrested by Virginia authorities in connection with a sexual assault on a minor. President Trump was right. They’re not sending their best,” said Rep. Nehls.

Representative Beth Van Duyne (R-TX) shared a link to a New York Post article that talked about how the migrant crisis is affecting New York City and its taxpayers.

“Once again, taxpayers are getting fleeced as Democrat-run sanctuary cities frantically try to do damage control on the illegal immigrant crisis they invited in! President Biden could end this crisis in days by simply enforcing the laws we already have on the books,” said Rep. Van Duyne.

Furthermore, Representative Wesley Hunt (R-TX) called upon the Biden administration to secure the border.

“I.C.E. confirms Georgia student murder suspect entered U.S. illegally, and was previously arrested in N.Y.C. Jose Ibarra, arrested by N.Y.P.D. in Sept 2023 for child endangerment, but was released before detainer issued. When is enough enough? Secure the border!” said Rep. Hunt.

All three Texas Republicans voted to impeach Secretary Mayorkas earlier this month.
