In an interview with Texas Politics, Texas Representatives August Pfluger (R) and Dan Crenshaw (R) both dismissed President Joe Biden’s (D) State of the Union address as a “bad campaign speech”.

Rep. Pfluger tore into the president's speech for its tone and direction. The Texas politician claimed that the speech's audience was not who it was supposed to be.

“I was so angry, I’m not sure what it was. I mean, and he spent, you know, the very first part of the speech, I thought it was the State of the Union and it would talk about the Union. Instead, he talked about everything else other than the Union,” said Pfluger.

Pluger continued, “It was bad. It was angry. It was divisive. It’s uninspirational.”

The Texas representative summarized the speech as being divisive and evading issues that he believed were caused by the president.

“This country’s looking for someone who’s going to lead us out of the problems. Instead, he bragged about, you know, all these issues that are completely out of touch with reality. 30-plus minutes without talking about the massive border crisis and tries to blame Republicans for not passing a bill that wouldn’t solve the problem that he created,” said Pfluger.

“I don’t think it was for the Union,” said Pfluger about the speech’s intended audience.

Rep. Crenshaw expressed similar feelings to Pfluger and stated that the address was a speech that didn’t appeal to “moderates and independents”.

Crenshaw stated, “It was a bad campaign speech. The campaign that you’d want at this point in time with the election coming up would be geared towards moderates and independents and that wasn’t that. I think they mixed up his speeches. I think they used the one for the Chicago convention and not the one for the State of the Union.”

“You got zero benefit from this,” concluded Crenshaw.
