A year ago today, Hamas and other Palestinian nationalist militant groups carried out an attack against Israel. The attack, carried out from the Gaza Strip into the Gaza envelope of southern Israel, coincided with the Jewish holiday Simchat Torah. Since then, the Israel-Hamas war has been ongoing, and lawmakers have been divided. Texas Senator Ted Cruz (R) has released an advertisement, honoring the victims of the October 7th attack.
In the advertisement, the Texas Republican shares that in the October 7th attack, "Hamas murdered more Jews in a single 24-hour period since the Holocaust." In response, Senator Cruz noted that Israel has defended itself, adding that he fully supports Israel to defend itself as well as its effort to "utterly eradicate Hamas."
Senator Cruz also commented that "America's support for Israel should be unequivocal."

Sharing the advertisement on X, the Republican Senator reiterated that "one year ago Hamas committed the worst one-day mass murder of Jews since the Holocaust." "The U.S. should stand unequivocally with Israel as it eradicates the genocidal terrorist groups threatening to its existence, for as long as it takes," he added.
The war between Israel and Hamas has divided lawmakers with some calling for an immediate ceasefire. Critics of those calling for a ceasefire note that Hamas still has hostages that have not been released.
Hamas has an estimated 101 hostages that are still being kept in Gaza.
Several countries have joined forces to denounce the attack, calling it an act of terrorism. In contrast, other countries have directed blame at Israel, commenting that its occupation of the Palestinian Territories are the root cause of the attack.
A memorial was held in Jerusalem, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was in attendance. Speaking on the attack, he related that Israelis "went through a terrible massacre a year ago, and we stood up as a people, like lions."
