In an interview with Texas Politics, Texas Rep. Pete Sessions (R) discussed the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) caucus. The caucus, which will support the work done by the new DOGE agency, is expected to address things such as streamline the U.S. Postal Service.
"Government efficiency" is the name of the game according to Rep. Sessions, who informed Texas Politics that the DOGE Caucus will be meeting on Thursday. The meeting, which he will attend, will also include the likes of Iowa Senator Joni Ernst (R) and House Speaker Mike Johnson (R).
In the meeting, the caucus will point key issues that they want to address. However, some things are already apparent as Rep. Sessions noted some concerns that Florida Rep. Byron Donalds (R) pointed out earlier this week. This includes issues like government buildings being empty because government employees haven't returned to the office.
"We are no longer going for kicking the can down the road," Rep. Sessions commented when asked about the goal of the DOGE caucus. "We're gonna go for fixing things that need to be fixed. We're going to look at things that have been off [limits]. We're gonna look at them," he added.
The Texas congressman went on to note that "government efficiency is a big item for lots of people, and we're being inundated by people asking questions." Moreover, he shared that government waste has been an alarming issue that has largely gone unaddressed. "Government inefficiency costs us at least 6% of all of the spending that takes place across the government. It's typically called waste, fraud, and abuse, but it all fits under inefficiencies."
When asked about a specific issue he would like to see tackled, Rep. Sessions simply mentioned that streamlining the U.S. Postal Office would be at the top of the agenda.
"We need to streamline the post office - postal operations," he answered, adding that the caucus would be looking into the "sacred parts of what the post office provides."
