Republicans in the house are verbally sparring as lawmakers scramble to keep the government running. The first continuing resolution that was proposed was unfavorable given its size and purported massive spending. Thus, a new, smaller bill that was backed by President-elect Donald Trump (R) appeared to get Republicans on board. However, the size was favorable, but not all Republicans were thrilled as some warned that it would still increase massive spending. In a surprising move, President-elect Trump and Texas Rep. Chip Roy (R) have gone on the offensive over the CR bill.

Ahead of the new CR proposal, Rep. Roy unloaded on his GOP colleagues, accusing them of not being serious when it comes to government spending. Despite the new CR bill being significantly slimmer than the 1,500+ page bill, Republicans like Rep. Roy voted against it, arguing that it had some of the core issues of the previous bill.

President-elect Trump, who backed the new bill, was not happy to hear that a Republican congressman was going against the legislation.

The president-elect quickly took to social media to call out the Texas Republican, calling him an obstacle and urging Republicans to “primary” him in the next election. Calling him “just another ambitious guy, [sic] with no talent,” the president-elect wrote, “I hope some talented challengers are getting ready in the Great State of Texas to go after Chip in the Primary.” Trump called Rep. Roy a “very unpopular ‘Congressman,’” and he accused the Texas Republican of “getting in the way” of “another Great Republican Victory.”

Rep. Roy has not directly responded to the president-elect’s social media attacks, but his social media followers have shared their support for him by questioning why President-elect Trump would go after him. His followers called Rep. Roy one of the “good guys” and expressed shock and disappointment after reading about the ensuing feud.
