After announcing his retirement from the Texas House of Representatives, state Rep. Tony Tinderholt (R) has revealed his candidacy for Tarrant County Commissioner in Precinct 2.
The announcement comes the same week that he shared it was “time to go home.” While some may have interpreted that as state Rep. Tinderholt moving into a law outside of politics, he made it clear that his time in public service is far from over.
"I'm ready to come home," he said in his campaign announcement. "As a proud Christian, 21-year combat veteran, and dedicated public servant in the Texas House of Representatives, I'm honored to announce my candidacy for Tarrant County Commissioner, Precinct 2.”
“Throughout my career, I've fought to protect our values, ensure responsible government, and serve the people of Texas with integrity and commitment,” he added.
State Rep. Tinderholt represented House District 94, and he has already endorsed small business owner Cheryl Bean (R) as his successor.
He was consistently ranked as a taxpayer champion by Texans for Fiscal Responsibility and frequently recognized by conservative organizations as one of the Texas House’s leading right-wing voices.
Before entering the political world, state Rep. Tinderholt served over two decades in the military, first in the Air Force as a Spanish Cryptologic Linguist and later in the Army, where he served in various leadership roles and deployed to multiple combat zones. His service earned him honors including the Bronze Star Medal and the Combat Action Badge.
According to the press release announcing his candidacy, his campaign promises to highlight his legislative accomplishments and military discipline as assets to county-level governance. “I’m running to bring that same leadership and experience to Tarrant County,” he said, adding that he wants to “strengthen our community and build a more prosperous Tarrant County.”
Support for his candidacy is already picking up steam as state Rep. Briscoe Cain (R) responded enthusiastically on X, writing, “I’m excited for Tarrant County.”
