After dismal results in the 2024 presidential election, Democrats are hoping for a better showing in the 2026 midterm elections. The Texas Majority PAC and the Texas Democratic Party have announced the launch of Blue Texas, a sweeping statewide initiative to elect Democrats up and down the ballot.
The multimillion-dollar effort will mobilize volunteers, recruit candidates in every region, and build long-term infrastructure to strengthen Democratic power across the Lone Star state.
“We’re building on years of work to run the largest Democratic voter mobilization program in Texas history,” said Katherine Fischer, Director of Texas Majority PAC. “With Trump back in the White House and Ken Paxton dragging down the GOP ticket, we have a massive opportunity to win in 2026. Our efforts this cycle are aimed at winning in the short-term, and making Texas a true battleground state in the long term.”
The initiative comes after a controversial legislative session that exposed deepening fractures within the Texas Republican Party.
A recent poll commissioned by Texas Majority PAC showed Attorney General Ken Paxton (R) leading Senator John Cornyn (R) by a stunning 28 points in the GOP Senate primary, signaling widespread dissatisfaction and potential opportunity for Democrats. State Rep. James Talarico (D) has also shared his interest in launching a bid for the senate seat to take advantage of that opportunity.
Blue Texas will begin with June rallies in key counties like Harris, Travis, Dallas, Bexar, Denton, Collin, and Cameron to energize volunteers and voters. In July, the Turn Texas Blue Tour will visit over two dozen cities to recruit candidates and connect them with party resources, which is a strategy designed to ensure no Republican runs unchallenged.
