Attorney General Ken Paxton (R) announced this week that his office has launched an investigation into 33 individuals who are alleged to have illegally voted in the 2024 General Election despite being noncitizens.
The referrals came from Texas Secretary of State Jane Nelson (R) after Texas gained access to the federal SAVE (Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements) database, maintained by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. That access became available following an executive order by President Donald Trump (R), which directed the Department of Homeland Security to offer the database free of charge to all states.
“Noncitizens must not be allowed to influence American elections, and I will use the full weight of my office to investigate all voter fraud,” Attorney General Paxton said in a statement. “In order to be able to trust the integrity of our elections, the results must be determined by our own citizens – not foreign nationals breaking the law to illegally vote.”
The investigation comes amid Attorney General Paxton’s ongoing push to ensure “election integrity.” The attorney general recently announced the indictment and arrest of six individuals, including public officials, in Frio County for their alleged involvement in a vote harvesting scheme.
The suspects in that indictment, except for Frio County Judge Rochelle Camacho, were arrested on May 2nd. Judge Camacho is expected to be processed at a later date.
“These potential instances of unlawful voting will be thoroughly investigated,” Attorney General Paxton stated, “and I will continue to stand with President Trump in fighting to ensure that our state’s elections are safe and secure.”
The 33 individuals have not yet been disclosed, and the counties they may be involved in have also not been disclosed. The probe is part of a broader initiative to ensure that only U.S. citizens cast ballots in Texas elections.
