Laredo’s hometown hero, Roxanne Perez, has been honored for representing the city on the global stage.
The 24-year-old WWE superstar was recognized this week at an event in the Sames Auto Arena, where she was presented with a plaque in celebration “of her incredible achievements and for representing our city on a global stage,” according to a social media post from the arena.
“From Laredo to the ring, Roxanne continues to inspire the next generation with her passion, dedication, and undeniable talent,” the post reads.
Mayor Pro Tem Gilbert Gonzales and Council members Ricardo Rangel Jr. and Ruben Gutierrez Jr. presented Perez with the plaque. In a photo Perez shared on social media, the plaque recognizes her “remarkable journey from Laredo to the world stage” and her demonstration “that with passion, determination, and heart, anything is possible.”
“Your accomplishments in WWE have brought pride to our city and inspiration to countless young people,” the plaque reads.
The rising superstar, nicknamed “The Prodigy,” began her WWE career in 2022, wrestling in the promotion’s developmental brand, NXT. She quickly gained acclaim for her wrestling ability and persona, joining WWE’s Raw brand on May 19, 2025, and becoming a member of the wrestling stable The Judgement Day, which includes current Women’s World Champion Liv Morgan and AAA Mega Champion Dominik Mysterio.
ESPN named Perez their “Women’s Wrestler of the Year,” tying her with Toni Storm of All Elite Wrestling.
Perez trained at the Laredo Wrestling Alliance before continuing her training under two-time WWE Hall of Famer Booker T.
