Since the beginning of President Trump's second term in office, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has issued over $84 billion in civil fines to illegal migrants.

Those who are in the U.S. illegally are fined $998 per day they spend in the country following their final order of removal.
Since the beginning of the Trump administration, DHS has issued more than 103,000 total fines to illegal migrants. These fines have amounted to over $84 billion.
"Our message to illegal aliens is clear: LEAVE NOW. If you don’t, you will face the consequences, including fines, arrest, and deportation," DHS wrote on X.
In June of 2025, DHS and the Department of Justice (DOJ) announced a new process which eliminated the 30-day notice period announcing the intent to issue a fine. The process allows immigration officers to send fines by regular mail and shortening the process for those who may contest their fines.
In addition to the fines, those who fail to self-deport may be subject to jail time and deportation. Following deportation, they will be unable to reenter the U.S.
However, those who choose to self-deport can do so through the Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) app. Once they choose to do so, they may be relieved of their fines and will receive a free flight home and an exit bonus of $2,600.
Billions of dollars in fines have been issued as the Trump administration cracks down on those who have entered the U.S. illegally in recent years.
