Congressman Pete Sessions (R) announced the launch of the bipartisan Military & Veteran Housing Caucus, a new congressional group focused on improving housing stability, homeownership, financial readiness, and economic opportunities for servicemembers, veterans, and military families.

What is the Military & Veteran Housing Caucus?

The bipartisan Military & Veteran Housing Caucus (MVHC) is a congressional effort aimed at tackling the housing and financial challenges facing servicemembers, veterans, and military families.

The caucus was established to provide lawmakers with a dedicated forum to develop bipartisan solutions related to:

  • Housing stability for military families and veterans.
  • Homeownership opportunities.
  • Financial readiness.
  • Military-to-civilian transition support.
  • Long-term economic mobility.

Since military housing issues often span several congressional committees, the caucus is intended to improve coordination on legislation affecting military-connected families.

Rep. Sessions will serve as the caucus' Republican Co-Chair alongside Rep. Susie Lee (D-NV). Vice chairs include Reps. Juan Ciscomani (R-AZ), Tom Suozzi (D-NY), Dale Strong (R-AL), and Gil Cisneros (D-CA), creating a bipartisan leadership team focused on advancing military housing policy.

Why was the caucus created?

According to Sessions, frequent military relocations, credit-building challenges, and limited awareness of available benefits continue to make homeownership difficult for many servicemembers and veterans.

The office also noted that although the VA Home Loan Program remains one of the federal government's most valuable veteran benefits, only an estimated 15% of eligible veterans use it.

The caucus plans to promote greater awareness of existing housing resources while exploring policies that strengthen financial security for military families.

Rep. Pete Sessions: "America's servicemembers and veterans have answered the call to serve our nation, and Congress has a responsibility to ensure they have every opportunity to achieve lasting financial security and homeownership."

Bipartisan support

Members of the caucus' leadership emphasized the importance of improving housing access for veterans and active-duty servicemembers.

Rep. Dale Strong said the caucus will focus on ensuring military families have access to safe and reliable housing.

Rep. Tom Suozzi called housing a matter of honoring those who served, while Rep. Juan Ciscomani said homeownership provides stability for military families after years of deployments and relocations.

Navy veteran Rep. Gil Cisneros said addressing housing insecurity remains critical for both active-duty personnel and veterans.

The Bottom Line

The newly launched Military & Veteran Housing Caucus brings together Republican and Democratic lawmakers to address housing affordability, expand awareness of veteran benefits such as the VA Home Loan Program, and develop bipartisan policies aimed at improving financial security for military families.
