Republicans across the country gathered in Dallas, Texas, this week to rally the Party ahead of the midterms this November, and Senate nominee Ken Paxton (R-TX) emerged as a central figure at the convention.
Paxton took the stage on the first day of the convention to tout his record as attorney general and his campaign agenda. He highlighted his record as attorney general, campaign policies and his opponent’s “radical” positions.
Paxton, with a fresh $10 million donation from President Donald Trump’s super PAC, noted that the president has often referred to him as “the most effective Attorney General in the country.”
“I will fight to preserve the American dream,” he said. “James Talarico is running to destroy it.”
Paxton quickly turned his speech toward Democratic candidate James Talarico (D-TX) and his controversial record among Republicans. Paxton said Talarico is “the most radical Democrat in Texas history’ and ‘the most well-funded.”
Since launching his Senate bid in September, Talarico has raised more than $70 million in campaign contributions, without accepting donations from any super PACs. Paxton has raised roughly $17 million, including the $10 million the president offered last week.
Regardless of funding, Paxton stressed his opponent is “obsessed with transitions.”
“He wants to transition your kids,” Paxton claimed. “He wants to transition Texas off of oil and gas. How about we transition him and his crazy ideas right out of Texas?”
Beyond Texas, although it’s one of the battleground states and one of the potential four seats Democrats need to flip to take a majority in the Senate, Paxton said this election is much bigger than his state.
“If we lose Texas, we lose the common sense revolution,” he said. “If we lose the common sense revolution, we lose America.”
Turning back to his campaign message, Paxton said he is focused on making life more affordable for working Texans.
“Everywhere I go, I meet Texans working harder than ever, but still worried that they will never get ahead,” Paxton said. “Those are the people that I’m fighting for.”
