Republicans and Democrats continue to spar over the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas. After a missile struck a Gaza hospital, misinformation quickly spread attributing it to Israel. However, it was later clarified that Israel did not launch the missile. Despite this, Democrat lawmakers denounced Israel over the attack, and Texas Rep. Beth Van Duyne (R) is now calling on lawmakers like Michigan Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D) to be censured.

Shortly after reports of the Gaza hospital attack, lawmakers like Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar (D) and Rep. Tlaib led a press conference, condemning Israel over the attack despite reports clarifying that Israel did not commit the attack.

Since then, the lawmakers have not apologized over the press conference and comments, and criticism has begun to pour in from both sides of the aisle.

Florida Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D) has also responded to Tlaib’s comments and calls for a ceasefire, accusing the Democrat of “fanning the flames” during an interview with CNN. Calling it “outrageous,” Wasserman Schultz said she doesn’t think Tlaib is “reading the American people’s sentiments right now.”

Rep. Van Duyne has also responded to Tlaib’s comments. During an interview with Newsmax, Van Duyne said “she needs to be censured without a doubt.”

“We are looking at complete misinformation that she is spreading. It’s leading to deaths, it’s leading to hatred, it’s leading to other countries now taking a position against Israel, and it also led to some of the possible cancelled meetings with President Biden,” she expressed.

Sharing the interview segment on social media, Van Duyne captioned the post with “the lies coming from the Hamas Caucus are beyond dishonest – it is reckless, endangers lives, and enrages people against Israel in this justified war against the terrorists of Hamas.”

She ended the caption by calling Tlaib’s comments “disgusting, anti-semitic lies and Hamas propaganda.”
