U.S. Representatives Monica De La Cruz (R-TX) and Ronny Jackson (R-FL) spoke to Texas Politics to voice their displeasure with President Joe Biden (D) after reports surfaced that he would be taking executive action to limit border crossings.
The move from the President – should he go through with it – comes at a time in which his approval ratings come in at anywhere between 37-42%, according to the latest polling. His approval rating on the immigration issue comes in the low 30 percentile.
Rep. De La Cruz said President Biden is “not in his right mind” and could’ve addressed the border since taking office.
“It goes to exactly what we’ve known all along. He’s not in his right mind. Everybody’s known, everybody’s told him several times that he has had executive order privileges. They have been done under both Democrat and Republican presidents,” said Rep. De La Cruz. “It just goes to show once again that he’s not mentally cognitive.”
Furthermore, Rep. Jackson reaffirmed the beliefs of other Republicans, calling the potential move a political one.
“All for political reasons. You can bet 100% that if [President Biden] were to get reelected today – it’s just to get votes. And as soon as he gets the votes he needs, he’ll turn it right back to where it was,” said Rep. Jackson. “I think it’s all just a political ploy. And I think that the day he gets elected, it’ll flip right back.”
Additionally, Representative Byron Donalds (R-FL) agreed that the potential executive order from the Commander-In-Chief is not for the sake of the governed but for his polling numbers.
“It’s all politics. His numbers suck, he knows that. So he’s trying to figure out ways to remedy that before the election. But this is why, in my view, we should have used every single legislative vehicle possible to force his hands on meaningful change, not political change that’ll look nice in a press release,” said Rep. Donalds.
He would also mention that funding a government to perform in a way that does not serve conservative principles – such as illegal border crossings – should never happen.
“I think that the key thing is a budgetary process is there for a reason. We funded the government, but we funded the government to do what? Still allow illegal immigrants to cross our borders with impunity? We shouldn’t have allowed that. That’s where you start and you go from there,” said Donalds.
All three representatives voted to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.
