Representative Pat Fallon was selected to serve on the Bipartisan Task Force to Investigate the Attempted Assassination of Donald Trump. The Task Force will take over all pending House committee investigations relating to the assassination plot and near-death of former President Donald Trump (R).
The Lone Star State congressman shared a statement following his selection to the Task Force.
"The cataclysmic security failure we witnessed on July 13 at President Trump’s Butler, PA rally should disturb every American," said Rep. Fallon. "We must understand how and why it happened in order to ensure it will NEVER happen again. It is clear that substantive reforms have to be implemented. The mission here, moving forward, is to guarantee the safety of President Trump and all Secret Service protectees. Thank you to Speaker Johnson for affording me the opportunity to serve on the Task Force to investigate the attempted assassination of President Trump. It is our duty to work in a bipartisan fashion and leave no stone unturned in pursuit of the truth."
Moreover, Representative Laurel Lee (R-FL) echoed the notion that the Secret Service breakdown was a “catastrophic failure” that the Task Force will look to bring to light.
“On July 13, 2024, the American people witnessed a catastrophic security failure that nearly resulted in the loss of President Trump’s life. The United States Secret Service has a no-fail mission to protect America's leaders, and unfortunately, they failed at their core mission that day," said Rep. Laurel Lee. "One of Congress's constitutional responsibilities is to conduct oversight to provide accountability and transparency, and that is exactly what this task force will do. I would like to thank Speaker Johnson for entrusting me to be a member of this task force and I look forward to working with my colleagues to investigate these inexcusable security failures to ensure this never happens again."
The goals of the Task Force – according to Rep. Lee’s press release – include “to understand what went wrong on the day of the attempted assassination, to ensure accountability, [and] to prevent such an agency failure from ever happening again.” It will also make recommendations for reform to the “relevant government agencies” as well as “necessary legislation to implement the reforms.”
Other U.S. Representatives from the Sunshine State include Reps. Mike Waltz (R-FL) and Jared Moskowitz (D-FL).
Rep. Moskowitz stated that he was “grateful” to Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) for selecting him for the Task Force.
After the shooting at my high school in Parkland, I helped create the Marjory Stoneman Douglas Commission to investigate the failures that led to 17 people being killed.

“I am grateful to be selected by Speaker Johnson and Rep. Jeffries to serve on the bipartisan task force investigating the assassination attempt on former President Trump. America deserves to know all the failures that day and to make sure we fix them for the future,” said Rep. Moskowitz. “After the shooting at my high school in Parkland, I helped create the Marjory Stoneman Douglas Commission to investigate the failures that led to 17 people being killed. Additionally, as Florida’s Emergency Management Director, I was involved in after-action reviews to learn from the failures of man-made and natural disasters.”
America has been in a dark period during this election cycle. There is a chance this Task Force could bring things back into the light.
