Representative Randy Weber (R-TX) spoke to Texas Politics regarding the southern border and the influx of illegal migrants that has occurred under President Joe Biden’s (D) and Vice President Kamala Harris’ (D) administration. Specifically, Rep. Weber discussed how the increase in undocumented immigrants has affected the State of Texas and its public resources.
“I spent four years in the Texas House. My second term, I was the vice chairman of the committee on the border, and I can tell you things back then about how bad the border was. It's multiple, multiple, multiple times worse. I've been there probably 10 or 12 times, and what they're doing at the border is a travesty," said Rep. Weber.
The Texas congressman added a hypothetical regarding how many illegal immigrant children come across the border, and how many enter the public school system compared to the overall number of immigrants. The numbers from Rep. Weber demonstrate the immediate impact that happens on school districts in Texas.
"And let me put it to you this way: Last year when 300,000 illegals came across the border – 304,000 I think it was in one month – by the way, in the Texas legislature, I was on the public education committee, kindergarten through 12, all four years," shared Weber. "So, when 300,000 illegals came across, if 20% of those were kids kindergarten through 12? 60,000 students."
Rep. Weber continued by sharing what those kinds of numbers mean for the Lone Star State’s resources when a massive number of unexpected children arrive at a public school system using taxpayer dollars when an average school district maintains 5,000 kids.
“When you brought in 60,000 kids, you just brought in somewhere between 10 to 15 complete school districts. You just brought in somewhere between 10 and 15 complete school districts. Somebody has to pay to educate. Guess who that somebody is? It's us,” said Rep. Weber. “Now fast forward to health coverage. Now, all of a sudden, these illegals are going into the emergency rooms and the clinics, also county hospitals. They don't they don't have any money. Our great health practitioners are going to treat them, because that's their oath, right? ... Guess who they're going to raise prices on? Somebody has to pay for all these illegals’ help. Guess who that somebody is? It's us."
He concluded by stating the Democratic ticket will spell disaster for the State of Texas and the United States as a whole.
"Kamala Harris is going to wreck this nation if she becomes President," said Weber.
