President-elect Donald Trump's (R) choice for "Border Czar" has drawn the ire of Democrats over his hardline stance on illegal immigration. Tom Homan has threatened Democratic lawmakers with legal repercussions if they don't cooperate with the incoming administration's plans to carry out mass deportations. In the latest debacle, Texas Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D) suggested that a "rude awakening" is imminent because of the Trump Administration's incompetence on the issue.
In a recent appearance on MSNBC, Rep. Crockett issued scathing remarks over President-elect Trump's leadership on addressing immigration concerns.
“We have someone who does not know what he’s doing,” the Texas Democrat said, referring to Homan. “You have Trump that goes out there, him and his minions, who say things like ‘you know what, we’re only getting rid of the bad ones,’ right? People sit there, and they’re like, ‘Wait a minute. You’re gonna come to my job where I’m working and paying into taxes or whatever? Or my kids are at school?’ I think there will be a rude awakening on all sides," she further detailed.
Responding to the comments during an appearance on Newsmax, Homan said he did agree with Rep. Crockett on a "rude awakening," but he noted that it already happened in the November election when Americans voted for President-elect Trump.
Citing his experience with illegal immigration, Homan dismissed Rep. Crockett's comments, saying that Americans gave the incoming Trump administration the mandate to curb illegal immigration and solve the problems at the border.
"President Trump is going to secure this border and save lives just not of Americans, but of aliens, too," Homan responded.
In her comments, Rep. Crockett accused the incoming administration of wanting to split up families, but Homan shared that the Trump Administration will reinstate policies that will hold families together in detention centers.
"All of a sudden, the discussion goes from family detention to family separation,” he said in a recent interview with The Washington Post. “Family detention is the complete opposite of family separation.”
