“Under the Biden Administration, from day one, they took away many of the tools that were working to open up the borders, and as a result, you’re seeing 20 million people enter our country illegally.”

Debates over immigration policy continue to dominate the political landscape as President-elect Donald Trump (R) readies himself to assume office. Texas Rep. Beth Van Duyne (R) has called for stronger federal action to address border security.

In an interview with Fox Business, the Texas Republican highlighted the challenges Texas faces under current federal policies, affirming that Republicans are ready to reverse the damning policies of the Biden Administration.

“We have an opportunity right now to get our borders under control again, which is what we saw during the first administration,” she said. “Under the Biden Administration, from day one, they took away many of the tools that were working to open up the borders, and as a result, you’re seeing 20 million people enter our country illegally.”

Van Duyne mentioned H.R. 2, the Secure the Border Act, stressing that the bill is a critical measure that will curb the influx of illegal immigration.

She expressed optimism at Republicans being able to address issues like illegal immigration now that they have a Republican-led Congress, a Republican majority in the Senate, and President-elect Trump back in the White House.

“Having a partner in the White House means that you’re gonna be able to pass bills like H.R. 2 out of the House, be able to get it passed in the Senate, and then be able to have it signed into law by a Republican President, which we did not see under the Biden Administration,” she commented.

Texas Republicans have sounded the alarm on the influx of illegal immigration in the U.S., and Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R) has even adopted measures deemed controversial to respond to the concern. The governor has similarly taken it upon himself to build a border wall in Texas, sharing updates on the construction on social media.

The president-elect has already signaled that his administration is prepared to carry out mass deportations, and his new “Border Czar,” Tom Homan, has shared the same hardline stance on immigration.
