House Republicans passed the One Big Beautiful Bill, sweeping legislation intended to reverse the economic decline of recent years and usher in a new era of American manufacturing, energy production, and economic competitiveness. Texas Representative Beth Van Duyne (R) praised the bill’s passage, calling it a historic step toward restoring prosperity and opportunity across the country.
The legislation, according to Rep. Van Duyne, delivers on the mandate voters gave House Republicans, to cut taxes, reduce federal spending, secure the border, and position the United States as the most competitive nation in the world for business growth.
“This bill empowers growth, economic expansion, and historic investment in America’s future,” Rep. Van Duyne said.
Rep. Van Duyne, a member of the House Ways and Means Committee, noted that the legislation reflects extensive work by Republican members over the past two years. Committee members traveled across the country meeting with small business owners and job creators, who repeatedly called for reduced tax burdens and regulatory relief to support expansion, hiring, and innovation.
Among the bill’s key provisions are the permanent extension and expansion of the small business deduction, enhancements to research and development tax treatment, and incentives for capital investment through full expense of qualified property.
Van Duyne emphasized that the legislation includes several provisions she personally fought to include, specifically those that protect and support Texas businesses, such as compromises on Medicaid reform.
The bill also makes permanent the nearly doubled standard deduction first introduced in the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, increases the deduction for seniors with moderate incomes, and permanently doubles the child tax credit. Additional reforms eliminate federal taxes on tips, overtime, and car loan interest, measures designed to help working families keep more of what they earn.
Healthcare provisions in the bill expand access to Health Savings Accounts, allowing contributions by Medicare-eligible seniors, increasing contribution limits, and permitting both spouses to make catch-up contributions. The bill also allows the use of bronze and catastrophic health plans in conjunction with HSAs.
Van Duyne expressed confidence that the legislation will continue to improve as it moves through the Senate.
“The American people asked for history-making reforms to strengthen the future of our country and opportunities for their families,” she said. “This bill sets the stage for virtuous cycles of opportunity and prosperity, ushering in the Golden Age of America.”
The One Big Beautiful Bill passed the House on a narrow, party-line vote, with strong support from Texas Republicans like Reps. De La Cruz, Nehls, Arrington, and Sessions. They praised its investments in border security, permanent tax relief, and energy growth, while addressing Texas priorities like funding for Operation Lone Star and Medicaid reform.
The Texas delegation urges the Senate to quickly advance the bill for President Trump’s signature to help restore America’s economic strength and security.
