Congressman Brandon Gill (R-TX) has been chosen to lead a newly created House task force to investigate what Republicans describe as abuses within government institutions, kicking off the probe with a major Medicaid fraud investigation in Ohio.
House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) announced Rep. Gill's appointment as chair of the Task Force on Defending Constitutional Rights and Exposing Institutional Abuses.
The task force, authorized to operate for six months, will hold hearings and focus on three main areas:
- DEI policies in workplaces and universities
- The use of immigration and social welfare programs
- Efforts by foreign actors and outside money groups to restrict Americans' free speech
Gill, who serves on the Oversight Committee, expressed enthusiasm about the role.
"Americans deserve truth, transparency, and justice," he said. "They are sick of being defrauded by government institutions and programs that should have been putting them first, not robbing their tax dollars."
First Initiative
Now, the task force is hitting the ground running. Gill and Chairman Comer have already sent a letter to Ohio's Medicaid director requesting documents related to alleged fraud within the state's Home and Community-Based Services program.
The investigation follows reporting that suggested some providers were billing Medicaid for services that were never actually delivered, with little to no consequences.
After the announcement, Gill expanded on his goals, arguing that the task force's broader mission is to ensure taxpayer money is spent properly.
He claimed that some government programs have been used to funnel dollars to political allies rather than serving the American public, calling the alleged behavior "flagrantly corrupt."
Chairman Comer praised Gill's selection, saying he has "exposed the insanity of the Radical Left" and calling him a rising star on the committee.

- Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ)
- Rep. Michael Cloud (R-TX)
- Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL)
- Rep. Brian Jack (R-GA)
“Whenever you pay your taxes every single year, you want to make sure that your money is actually going to programs that benefit the American people, not programs that benefit explicitly the Democrat party,” Gill concluded.
