Following fatal shootings in Maine and Texas in the past week, officials ordered a temporary halt on most illegal immigration enforcement vehicle stops nationwide. A day later, Trump said it is "not happening on [his] watch."
Why was ICE called to a halt initially?
Sen. Susan Collins (R-Me.) asked DHS Sec. Markwayne Mullin to pause ICE traffic stops until agents receive further training, following fatal shootings in Maine and Texas in a span of six days.

Just six days earlier on July 7, an ICE officer fatally shot a Mexican national in Houston, TX.
Although Collins and the DHS called for a temporary pause on ICE traffic stops, Trump is pushing back.
"The Radical Left Dumocrats would like to see this done, but it won’t happen on my watch. I.C.E., be judicious, fair and smart, and go back and do your very important job," the President wrote on Truth Social.
It is unclear whether or not the pause is going to remain in effect, however, the DHS reposted Trump's Truth Social post on X.
