Representative Chip Roy (R-TX) is calling on several federal officials to address his concerns over a planned Islamic development being built near Camp Bullis, a military training base in San Antonio, Texas.
Last week. Rep. Roy issued a letter to United States Attorney General Todd Blanche, Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, and Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent, urging them to determine whether any legal statutes have been violated by the expansion project.
Rep. Roy said he first heard about the development after the RAIR Foundation USA released a report earlier this week. He said it notes that the Northside Islamic Center of San Antonio (NICSA) is “nearly” completed with a 7.25-acre campus that includes a mosque, housing, schools, businesses and designated prayer areas.
“As you all are likely aware, efforts to spread Sharia Law or any Islamic theocracy code are in direct contravention of our Constitution…,” Rep. Roy wrote.
The report also claims that NICSA Islamic leaders partnered with Muslim Brotherhood-affiliated organizations to fundraise for the expansion project, alleging that it received donations from “questionable” sources.
“Additionally, NICSA has solicited donations for its Islamic community project from unknown international sources, which could be from potential bad actors or organizations,” Rep. Roy wrote.
Rep. Roy has continued to use his position in Congress to advocate against Sharia Law, the Islamic legal code. He warns it, along with any groups or individuals connected to the Muslim Brotherhood, poses a threat to American constitutional principles.
“[Sharia Law] subjugates women, children and non-Muslims to second-class citizenship while sanctioning varying forms of punishment for those opposed,” Rep. Roy wrote. “Under no circumstances should Sharia, or any foreign legal code, be practiced on U.S. soil, including community developments.”
As Camp Bullis falls in his district, Rep. Roy said he feels a personal responsibility to speak out for his constituents and those who serve in the U.S. armed forces.
“I have an obligation to ensure their safety and the safety of my constituents in the surrounding area,” he wrote.
