Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) joined President Donald Trump at the White House to discuss the automatic enrollment of millions of American children in Trump Accounts, legislation authored by the Texas congressman.
The Trump Accounts, launched in 2025, are tax-advantaged investment accounts for children under 18. At a campaign rally last week, Trump said nearly seven million children are enrolled after the Treasury Department announced it was expanding the program through automatic enrollment to more than 60 million additional eligible children.
Sen. Cruz said he deliberately included automatic enrollment in the legislation to ensure every American child under 18 could have an account.
“When I wrote this legislation, we had a simple goal: every child in America should have the opportunity to begin life with an investment account and a stake in the extraordinary economic engine that is the United States of America,” he said.
Sen. Cruz also noted that the accounts are do more than provide financial support, but it also teaches financial literacy by giving young Americans practical experience with saving, investing, and building wealth.
“For decades, we’ve talked about how to teach young Americans the value of saving, investing and building wealth,” Sen. Cruz said. “Trump Accounts actually gives them the tools to do it.”
With an account in their name that has been growing for their entire life, Sen. Cruz said capitalism becomes more tangible and less of an “abstract concept.”
“They’re an investor. They’re an owner. They have skin in the game,” he said.
Sen. Cruz and President Trump are continuing to encourage American families to enroll their children as soon as possible.
“And to those listening – these accounts have been created for you, but please take the time to claim your child’s account so that their investments can start today,” Sen. Cruz said. “I’m proud of what we accomplished together—and even more excited about what it will mean for millions of American kids in the years ahead.”
