After federal agents searched Representative Ilhan Omar’s (D-MN) Washington, D.C., home, House Democrats warn that the alleged abuse of power will not go unanswered.

Earlier this week, Rep. Omar’s home was searched by the Department of Justice (DOJ) under a legal warrant. The Minnesota congresswoman is up for re-election, coming just about a month before a midterm election that will determine which party takes hold of either chamber of Congress.

House Democratic leadership, including Reps. Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY), Katherine Clark (D-MA) and Pete Aguilar (D-CA), said this alleged abuse of power will not go unanswered.

“The American people deserve transparency, and we will deliver full accountability for the rogue abuse of power from the Department of Homeland Security and Department of Justice,” the lawmakers said in a joint statement.

Shortly after her home was searched, Rep. Omar said the search was part of what she described as President Donald Trump’s ongoing campaign of political intimidation.

“For ten years, Trump has targeted me with baseless lies and smear campaigns,” she said on X. “This is just the latest escalation in his campaign of political intimidation. I will not be silenced.”

Rep. Omar came to the United States as an immigrant at age 12 and became a citizen by 17. President Donald Trump’s administration has continued to target her with allegations concerning her immigration and citizenship history

“Trump has attacked @Ilhan for years,” Rep. Christian Menefee (D-TX) said on X. “Now he's using the federal government against a sitting member of Congress three weeks before an election.”

Rep. Menefee called the DOJ raid a “vile abuse of power,” adding that it is another example of the Trump administration’s weaponization of government against “political enemies.”

“This president has done so time and again, and the Republicans who control Congress just sit back and let it happen,” he said.

Rep. Greg Casar (D-TX) noted Rep. Omar’s record of speaking out against the Trump administration’s immigration enforcement efforts.

“Ilhan Omar stands up and won’t let Trump do whatever he wants to our country,” Rep. Casar said on X. “It’s up to use to do the same.”
