President Donald Trump (R) will be inaugurated on January 20th, and on "Day 1" he plans to address concerns regarding illegal immigration and the southern border. Democrats have vowed to push back against the president's efforts, and Republicans are now questioning the move. Texas Senator Ted Cruz (R) argues that Democrats have learned nothing from the election, adding that they still support open borders.
Republicans view President Trump's electoral win as a mandate that things have to drastically change. An issue at the forefront of President Trump's platform, similar to his 2016 presidential run, was the southern border.
In an interview with Newsmax, Senator Cruz discussed the Democratic Party's response to the election, positing that they haven't learned from the outcome.

"It really is amazing to see Democrats refusing to listen to the American people, refusing to learn any lessons. Instead, they're doubling down on the same radical policies," Senator Cruz argued. "The Democrat Party today supports fully open borders, supports releasing violent criminal illegal aliens into this country, and that's endangering the safety of every family in America, every child in America," the Texas senator added.
However, Senator Cruz, who campaigned on the same issue, expressed that despite Democrats wanting to keep the status quo, “that’s gonna change, and it’s gonna change very quickly."
One admission that the president-elect has made is that he will declare a national emergency and call for mass deportations. His "Border Czar" Tom Homan has clarified that the Trump Administration will pursue "criminals" and "gang members," but the deportation plan has drawn the ire of Democrat lawmakers.
“The vast majority of the damage done – opening up the border – was done through unilateral executive action. The good news of that is anything done through unilateral executive action can be undone through unilateral executive action." Senator Cruz explained.
