Amid the war with the host country, the Iranian mullah team has gone through hoops just to play in the World Cup.
The team struggled to get visas for their team and traveling party and were sent to Tijuana after going 2-2 in their first match against New Zealand at Los Angeles Stadium Monday.
“They said we have to leave immediately," said Ghalenoei. "We were supposed to stay until [Tuesday] lunchtime to recover.”
As the Iranian team played, a mostly supportive crowd cheered on the team.
As the U.S. hosts countries around the world for this year's World Cup, the struggles with Iran continue as a peace deal is to be signed this week.
